Cleanings/ Sweeps FAQs
Below are a few questions that are frequently asked reference our chimney cleanings!
How does a Chimney Sweep clean a chimney? Will it make a mess?
At CFAC, a chimney sweep means a CSIA certified chimney sweep. Every technician that does a Chimney Cleaning must follow specific guidelines and procedures that guarantee a thorough and professional job. We protect your home with furniture and floor coverings, along with shoe protectors! You are our priority, and your home is yours!
What is creosote, and why is it dangerous?
Creosote is one of the unwanted byproducts from burning wood. It’s a black tar-like substance that can be found in chimneys in different forms depending on the severity of the buildup. When the creosote has reached a certain level of buildup, it can result in a flue fire that causes severe damage to your chimney, fireplace and even your home.
How long does a chimney cleaning take?
A chimney cleaning takes roughly an hour. We do require a CSIA certified inspection prior to the cleaning to ensure your fireplace and chimney is up to code and safe for use. We don’t want to perform the cleaning, just to tell you the fireplace is a hazard to use.
